According to Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), 12 Thailand provinces should be able to declare Covid-19 as an endemic ahead of the country’s deadline for ending the pandemic.

Provinces will reach an endemic state when the virus fatality rate falls below 0.1% for 2 straight weeks.

Thailand’s COVID-19 death rate is at 0.31%.

Although, 12 provinces with a falling mortality rate are on the verge of declaring COVID-19 an endemic. These provinces are Surat Thani, Krabi, Ranong, Trang, Phetchaburi,  Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Satun, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat.

The shift to endemic Covid-19 is divided into four phases:

* Combat (level 4): March 12 through early April

* Plateau (level 3): April to May

* Decline (level 2): Late May to early June

* Post-pandemic (level 1): starting July 1

Currently, 21 provinces are now in the combat phase. These areas are Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae,  Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Nakhon Sawan, Sakon Nakhon, Bueng Kan, Loei, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, Maha Sarakham, Yasothon,  Sisaket, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani.

The rest 44 provinces are in the plateau phase. These are Bangkok, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phetchabun, Uttaradit, Phayao, Phichit, Chainat, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Singburi, Lopburi, Tak, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ang Thong, Saraburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Suphan Buri, Phang Nga, Phatthalung, Chumphon, Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Mukdahan, Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, Rayong, Prachinburi, Trat, Sa Kaew, Nong Bua Lamphu, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et, Kalasin, Chaiyaphum, Buriram and Surin.

The majority of Covid fatalities occur in those who are not immunized and have chronic conditions, he said.

The CCSA has developed the following 3-point strategy to achieve endemic status:

* Easier access to care for the public, with a death rate of less than 0.1%.
* Booster doses are administered to more than 60% of the population.
* Raising public awareness of the steps necessary to move from pandemic to endemic status.
