Koh Mak

Koh Mak located in Trat province was named one of the 100 Sustainable Tourism Destinations this year by the Green Destinations Foundation and its partner organizations like the ASEAN Ecotourism Network, Travellife, ITB Berlin, and Ecotourism Australia.

DASTA or the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration started the low carbon efforts and started to build a “Low Carbon Family” in partnership with the government, local officials, and residents with an aim to lessen carbon emissions.

They presented a narrative on the island’s path to becoming Thailand’s first low-carbon tourism destination, which was awarded Best Practice for Sustainability Story on the concept “The journey to becoming the first low-carbon destination in Thailand.”

In 2015, DASTA introduced 3 campaigns, these are:

* Eat it Fresh – the campaign’s goal is to make hotels, resorts, and restaurants to support and buy local seafood in Koh Mak.

* Help Koh Mak count to 10,000 trees – the goal is to expand green areas in Koh Mak and entice tourists to practice eco-friendly behaviors.

* A Good Host – a campaign for locals to make their community more eco-friendly and sustainable by reducing carbon footprints.

Koh Mak is one of the 3 popular tourist destinations in Trat province.   If you’re looking for a sustainable stay, Koh Mak is the best place to visit.
