Over one million tourists from Malaysia have visited Thailand this year and authorities intend to continue increasing the numbers. From January 1 to October 7, there are 1,041,293 Malaysians traveled to Thailand.
There are more Malaysian tourists going to provinces than in the past. Tanes Petsuwan, deputy of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said that Malaysian visitors prefer to stay in Songkhla. However, authorities noticed that they are now traveling to Phuket, Chaing Mai, Chaing Rai, Satun, Krabi, and Phatthalung.
According to the National News Bureau of Thailand, Malaysian tourists have contributed around THB26.6 billion baht to Thailand’s tourism revenue. Now, TAT aims to increase the number of Malaysian visitors to 1.8 million by the end of 2022.
It is anticipated that the number of travelers will increase as Thailand approaches its peak season, which corresponds with the school holiday in Malaysia. It also aligns with the Diwali, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations. Tanes said that TAT would continue to organize tourism promotion events to reach its target of attracting 1.8 million Malaysian visitors by the end of 2022.
TAT said last month that Malaysians were this year’s largest tourist group in Thailand. Cambodia, Laos, and India attracted the next highest number of visitors. Over 5 million foreign travelers visited Thailand between January 1 and September 8. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipated that the number of visitors would surpass 10 million by end of 2022 based on advanced airline and hotel reservations.
