Thailand PM Orders Thailand Pass To Upgrade Its Services

After technical difficulties travelers experience with Thailand Pass, which is required to enter Thailand, the system is being updated to make travel to the country easier.  Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha directed government agencies to upgrade the system immediately to guarantee there are no unwanted delays in the process.  He stressed that foreign tourism is important for Thailand’s economic recovery.

The email database used by the Thailand Pass system seems to have been hacked since several applicants have reported receiving phishing or spoof emails informing them that their request has been denied. The email requests that the applicant download a document, but only from a personal computer.  Authorities issued a warning to applicants about the email, stating that it did not originate from Thailand Pass and “may compromise the privacy and security of your personal information.”

Approval of applications also takes time and travelers must enter the country using a QR code generated by the Thailand Pass system. According to a spokesperson for the Digital Government Development Agency Public Organization, the approval process has been hastened with travelers receiving a QR code in 7 days.

Once travelers arrive in the country, a system connected to the Thailand Pass is used to monitor their COVID-19 test results and hotel booking. On Day 1 and Day 5 in Thailand, visitors who qualify for the Test & Go quarantine exemption must submit an RT-PCR test and arrange a stay at a Safety and Health Administration hotel (SHA+).

Thailand Pass’s Hotel & Swab System gets data updates from the Thailand Pass system on an hourly basis. The system takes around 10 to 15 minutes to send a “pending approval” notification.  According to a government spokesperson, agencies have advised expanding the system’s server capacity to enhance the auto-approval function.
