Starting today, the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration decided to stop accepting new visitors under the Test and Go and Sandbox entry programs except for Phuket.  The administration will conduct an assessment of the situation on January 4.

Travelers who have previously registered and been authorized for entry into Thailand through the Thailand Pass Test & Go and Sandbox programs before December 22 will still be permitted to enter. Starting December 22 no travelers will be allowed to register. Approved Test & Go travelers will now be required to undergo a second RT-PCR test on their 7th day in Thailand according to Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the following statement:

  • Individuals who have registered and been accepted for entry into Thailand are eligible to enter through the Test & Go and Sandbox schemes.
  • Travelers who have registered but have not yet received permission or a Thailand Pass QR Code must continue to verify.  Once approved, they can enter Thailand under Sandbox or Test and Go programs.
  • Travelers interested in entering Thailand via Phuket Sandbox and Alternative Quarantine (AQ) can still register.
  • Travelers entering under the Sandbox and Test & Go must submit two 2 RT-PCR tests.  The costs for additional tests will be shouldered by the Thai government.

The resolution comes amid reports of the country’s first local transmission of the Omicron variant. There have been over 60 verified Omicron cases in Thailand, involving travelers entering Thailand from other countries.

The Test & Go program and Thailand Pass started on November 1, enabling fully vaccinated travelers from 63 “low risk” countries to enter Thailand without having to undergo quarantine. Travelers participating in the Test & Go program will need to book a night in an authorized SHA+ hotel to remain isolated while awaiting the RT-PCR test result.
