The Tourism Authority of Thailand anticipates a less lively New Year with a tourism income of only THB 8.04 billion due to the Omicron variant.  Yet, young tourists continue to travel due to their trust in the government’s preventative measures.

TAT predicts that tourist spending between December 31 and January 3 would be lower compared to previous holidays due to the rise of the Omicron variant and the economic slump.

Tourists are projected to make 2.63 million trips, bringing in 8.04 billion baht.

The total hotel occupancy rate is expected to be at 48%. However, Bangkok and Phuket hotels reported occupancy rates of 18% and 16%, respectively which are lower than Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Bangkok, Chon Buri, Kanchanaburi, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Prakan, and Phetchaburi are among the popular vacation destinations.

In addition, TAT organized countdown activities in Phuket, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ayutthaya, and Rayong, which are expected to attract 545,000 trips and generate THB 2.04 billion.

Wutthiphum Jurangkool, CEO of Nok Air, said that the airline would actively monitor travelers’ sentiment starting today until mid-January in order to adjust its business strategy for next year.

Nok Air increased flight frequencies to 120 on December 25 and will continue to do so until January 4.

Mr. Wutthiphum said that Nok Air will maintain an average of 100 flights each day in January 2022.

At the moment, advance reservations have surpassed 20%, as travelers continue to travel throughout the peak season.

Also, Nok Air intends to provide special flights that allow dogs to encourage animal lovers to travel while also collaborating with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote domestic tourism marketing throughout 2022. These include bundled premium tour packages with travel operators and hotels.
