Is Thailand the best retirement destination in Asia? No doubt! Thailand was recognized as the best retirement destination in Asia by International Living Magazine this year. The magazine ranked Thailand 11th out of 25 nations together with Costa Rica, Panama, and Mexico at the top of the list. The magazine’s yearly world retirement index ranks countries based on a variety of factors.  These include visa and residency, housing, entertainment, benefits, and climate.

Thailand was named as the best retirement destination in Asia this year because of its simple immigration procedures for retirees, tropical climate, beautiful beaches, low medical costs, and range of inexpensive living options.

According to the magazine, the best cities to stay in are Phuket, Bangkok, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai. To retire in Thailand costs around US$1,000 or 33,500 baht, while an apartment monthly rent costs13,400 baht to 16,750 baht or approximately US$400 to $US500.

Thailand received an index score of 72.9 from the magazine based on retirement benefits. Cambodia came in second place in Asia with a score of 72.3, followed by Malaysia with a score of 72, Indonesia’s Bali with a score of 69, and Vietnam with a score of 68.3.

Panama is named as the world’s best retirement destination by the magazine with an index score of 86.1 for its tropical environment, affordable cost of living, and friendly locals.
