The 10 millionth foreign tourist landed in Thailand on December 10. A milestone for the country’s tourism industry. Each of Thailand’s 7 international airports and 2 land border checkpoints welcomed tourists and 1 lucky traveler was greeted with presents at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport with PM Prayut Chan-o-cha in attendance.
The event was titled “Amazing Thailand 10 Million Celebrations” and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports acknowledged this achievement as a sign of the country’s successful recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The most recent target for the number of tourists entering Thailand at the end of the year was 10 million. According to the Minister of Tourism, the goal was easily reached 3 weeks early.
“The target of 10 million arrivals in 2022 has been reached. It is a milestone accomplishment demonstrating the effective recovery of Thailand’s tourism industry, the result of the coordinated efforts of all private and public sector stakeholders.”
The Phuket Express states that PM Prayut and Minister of Tourism and Sports Pipat Ratchakitprakarn waited for the arrival of the 10 millionth passenger at Bangkok’s main airport. Representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Suvarnabhumi Airport, the province, several police units, and the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia attended the ceremony.
This lucky tourist was identified as a flight from Saudi Arabia passenger. Flight SV846 from Riyadh. 357 passengers landed at 3 p.m., and a pair with 10-day trip plans to Phuket was declared as the 10 millionth tourist arrival.
They received complimentary airline tickets from Saudia Airlines, complimentary AOT limousine transfer, and gift certificates from luxury hotels, shopping malls, medical exams, and virtual property.
With an average spending of around THB 50,000 baht per tourist every trip, the tourism industry produced approximately THB 500 billion baht in income this year. Despite the possibility of a tourism downturn at the start of 2023 due to the fact that everyone who wanted to return to Thailand is already here, the goal for 2023 is been set to 20 million tourists and THB 1.5 trillion baht in revenue,
