Around 200,000 tourists from Saudi Arabia are anticipated to visit Thailand this year as a result of the resumption of direct flights and collaborative tourism promotion.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Saudi Arabian Airlines would begin conducting direct flights between the 2 countries on February 28 and the Tourism and Sports Ministry intended to send tourism officials to Saudi Arabia next month to promote their goods and services.
This is expected to bring 200,000 arrivals from Saudi Arabia and approximately 20 billion baht in tourism-related revenue this year, the spokesperson added.
He said that Saudi Arabian visitors have great potential markets and are a target group for wellness and medical tourism.
The ministry was writing a memorandum of understanding for Thai-Saudi Arabian tourism. It was recommended that Thai pilgrims must extend their visas for their trips to Saudi Arabia. The draft has been sent to Saudi Arabia for review.
The government spokesperson linked the positive tourism outlook through Thai-Saudi Arabian relations after the visit of Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to Saudi Arabia last month.
He said that the Foreign Ministry would bring Thai business sector leaders to Saudi Arabia to discuss bilateral trade development this weekend.
