Prior to Chinese New Year week, Thailand was the most-searched holiday destination in the world, with Suvarnabhumi Airport anticipating around 1.8 million Chinese visitors will visit the country from January 16 to 28.

Anucha Burapachaisri, a government spokesperson, announced Sunday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was delighted that Thailand topped the survey conducted by Sojern, a US travel marketing company.

According to Sojern, Thailand gained another position after ranking second the previous year.

Currently, 26.7% of all travel-related queries are about Thailand.

The company added that the Asia-Pacific area would be a popular destination for foreign travelers this year, with a prediction that the tourism industry may be the only sector in the country to see a total recovery this year.

The director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Kittipong Kittikachorn, said that the airport anticipates receiving an average of 139,938 passengers each day, or approximately 1.8 million people, from January 16-28.

He added that 1.3 million would be foreign visitors and 454,996 would be local tourists and this would imply an increase of 10,965 flights or an average of 843 flights daily.

The airport has improved its facilities by adding more check-in counters, making the luggage drop-off service accessible 4 hours before departure, and increasing the number of personnel at the immigration stations.

The airport also announced that it will deploy more interpreters for the Chinese New Year week to accommodate Chinese tourists.

Mr. Kittipong stated that the airport has partnered with its businesses and restaurants to offer Chinese signage for Chinese travelers.

In addition, the airport provided videos showcasing airport-to-city transportation options such as Airport Rail Links, public buses, and airport limos.
