The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration CCSA has approved visa extensions for foreign tourists. The extension for foreign travelers would increase from 30 days to 45 days starting October 1. The government agency added that the visa-upon-arrival program would be extended from 15 to 30 days. These changes on visa extensions are valid until 31 March 2023.
This announcement is part of the Thai government’s attempts to boost the tourist sector. From January to July 2022, Thailand welcomed 3.3 million foreign visitors.
“We hope extending their stay will increase tourist spending, stimulate the economy, and lessen the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect.”
Different estimates have been made by Thai officials on the total number of foreign tourists to arrive this year. In July, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports projected that over 9.3 million international tourists will visit the Kingdom in 2022.
Dr. Taweeslip stated that the government will declare Covid-19 from pandemic to endemic in October. He added that the Covid-19 scenario is “at a green level,” with 2,000 to 3,999 inpatients and 11 to 39 daily fatalities. Dr. Taweeslip added that 201-399 inpatients are ventilator-dependent and that infection outbreaks are minimal.
