Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports recently announced a remarkable influx of over 8.5 million international tourists from January to April 2023, generating 353 billion Thai baht in revenue. This notable surge in the tourism industry has been well-received by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who lauded the collective efforts of all agencies involved.

A total of 8,596,452 international visitors traveled to Thailand during this period, bringing in 353,331 billion baht. April alone welcomed 2,130,715 tourists, highlighting the country’s continued popularity as a leading travel destination.

The top 10 tourism markets contributing to Thailand’s success in 2023 include:

  1. Malaysia (367,530)
  2. China (328,375)
  3. India (131,230)
  4. Russia (115,743)
  5. South Korea (95,229)
  6. Vietnam (84,221)
  7. USA (70,977)
  8. UK (70,089)
  9. Laos (68,204)
  10. Hong Kong (67,771)

With extended Labor Day holidays in China, Malaysia, and Vietnam, over 520,000 international tourists arrived in Thailand during the first week of May alone. Moreover, Saudi Arabia’s announcement of reduced crude oil prices in Asia may lead to lower travel costs and increased tourism.

As the Prime Minister highlighted, Thailand’s potential in nature, tourism, sports, and health has played a significant role in its appeal to travelers. The country’s focus on safety, impressive experiences, and attentive care for visitors has been instrumental in the sector’s growth.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is currently promoting the “Visit Thailand Year 2023: Amazing New Chapters” campaign, emphasizing sustainable and responsible tourism, with a focus on meaningful travel experiences. In 2022, Thailand exceeded the TAT’s target with 11.15 million international arrivals. This year, the TAT is aiming for 25 million international tourists, making it the perfect time for you to plan your own Thai adventure.
