Thi Lo Su waterfall

One of Thailand’s treasured natural attractions, the Thi Lo Su Waterfall, located within Tak’s Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, will undergo a two-month hiatus from public visitation from July 1 to August 31 of this year.

According to Amnat Fongchai, the sanctuary’s Director, the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the restoration and recovery of the waterfall’s ecosystem, particularly during the monsoon season.

Thi Lo Su Waterfall, known for its beautiful limestone formation, sits at an impressive 900 meters above sea level. Its natural allure, coupled with its prominent location within Thailand’s largest wildlife refuge and some of Southeast Asia’s most pristine forests, makes it a must-visit attraction for international tourists. This wildlife refuge includes the Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, Thung Yai Naresuan and Huay Kha Kaeng Reserves, and Khlong Lan and Mae Wong National Parks.

The popularity of Thi Lo Su Waterfall among international tourists is primarily attributed to its stunning beauty and the unique experience it offers. Over the years, word-of-mouth from passionate travelers and nature enthusiasts has amplified its reputation globally, resulting in an ever-growing stream of visitors.

The monsoon season typically brings a dip in tourism in the district of Umphang in Tak, owing to the heavy rainfall making it difficult to access various natural attractions. That’s why it makes sense to close the Thi Lo Su Waterfall during this time.

Even though this short-term closure might change some people’s plans, it’s a small sacrifice to preserve the beauty of the Thi Lo Su waterfall for future generations. The support and understanding of all visitors are essential in making this plan work.

The waterfall will be more beautiful and healthy when it opens again in September. This will give visitors an even better experience. It’s a great example of how giving nature a little break can make a big difference.
