The government has announced that water splashing activities would be permitted at certain venues and not in public areas during this year’s Songkran Festival.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said on March 27 that officials authorize splashing activities under strict preventative measures to avoid COVID-19 transmissions.
Such gatherings must take place in specific areas that prohibit drinking alcohol or the use of talcum powder. Water splashing activity is not allowed in public places this year, according to NNT.
Thanakorn noted that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha showed concern about the possibility of COVID transmissions over the long holiday when people are scheduled to return to their home districts.
He advised people, especially senior citizens, to get vaccinated for their own protection. Individuals planning to travel to spend time with their families or on vacation are urged to take personal preventive measures and get an antigen test before traveling.
Business owners on major walking routes in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya will ask permission from the CCSA or COVID-19 Situation Administration Center CCSA to allow water splashing at their establishments.
The president of the Khao San Business Association Sanga Ruangwattanakul said that the plan will include event preparations and security measures such as screening and crowd management.
