The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) looks like gradually implementing the removal of the alcohol ban in districts and provinces across the country. Muang district in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya has been permitted to loosen restrictions and allow restaurants to sell alcoholic drinks.
Ayutthaya’s district has been listed as a Blue Zone pilot tourist area and restaurants are allowed to offer alcoholic drinks until 9 p.m. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha issued a decree assigning Muang as a Blue Zone. He announced the loosening of the restrictions but emphasized the need to adhere to health safety measures.
“Drinking alcohol in the district is allowed until 9 pm. However, all qualified restaurants must continue to strictly follow the rules and other preventive measures in order to control the infection situation at a stable rate. Officials would also deploy from time to time to monitor the area whether the venues were cooperating well.”
Officials didn’t disclose for how and what are the next areas they chose to remove the alcohol ban, having disregarded rising protests and demands from establishments in Pattaya to allow entertainment, nightlife, and consuming alcoholic drinks to resume but recently eased restrictions in Cha-am.
According to the province’s Deputy Governor, the Cha-am municipality in Petchaburi remained COVID-19 free since the November 1 reopening. With the COVID-19 cases apparently under control, approval was given to sell alcohol in restaurants until 10 p.m. Officials didn’t provide an explanation for why Cha-am was permitted to stay open an hour longer until 10 p.m., but Ayutthaya restaurants were required to stop serving alcohol at 9 p.m.
