Thailand is seeing a significant increase in the number of Chinese flights arriving in the kingdom as Covid-19 restrictions are eased. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has authorized 1,910 flights from China, with 671 scheduled to arrive this month and 970 in March. Around 25,256 flights are expected to land in Thailand this month, including the 269 Chinese flights that arrived last January.

The uptick in flights comes after the Thai government’s easing of travel restrictions and China’s removal of strict border controls last January 8. Airlines such as Air China Southern and Air China have requested to fly to various destinations in Thailand.

Impact on Thai Tourism

According to CAAT President Suttipong Kongpool, the increase in Chinese flights is expected to bring a boost in domestic and international travel in Thailand from February 13 to 19. The first direct tour group flights from China to Thailand have already landed in the country, marking a significant milestone in the recovery of the Thai tourism industry.

Chinese Tourists Flocking to Thai Attractions

Chinese tourists are eager to visit Thailand’s top tourist sites and attractions. They are visiting the Folding Umbrella Market in the central province of Samut Songkram, where vendors quickly fold their parasols and clear their goods from the railway track as the train approaches. Tourists are also heading to Bangkok’s New Chinatown, which is once again buzzing with life as Chinese visitors flock back to the bustling neighborhood.
