The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said that around 1.3 million foreign tourists visited the country during the first 5 months of 2022. TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn reported that the most tourists visiting the country were from India, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Germany, and the United States.

The 825,918 tourists arrived through Suvarnabhumi Airport, 378,786 at Phuket International Airport, 41,043 through Don Mueang International Airport, 19,962 via Sadao Border Checkpoint, and 12,783 at Nong Khai Border Checkpoint.

After the Test & Go program was discontinued, Yuthasak said that 532,177 visitors visited Thailand in May, surpassing the 500,000 goal.

The TAT governor said that if at least 500,000 foreign tourists enter Thailand in the next 4 months, the overall number of tourists for the remaining nine months of the year will be about 3 million.

Furthermore, he said that Tourism and Sports Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn’s estimate of 7 to 10 million travelers for 2022 would be attained if more than 1 million visitors visit Thailand from October to December.

Yuthasak expects more than 3.25 million travelers from the Middle East and Europe this year and is expected to generate 260 billion baht in tourism revenue.

TAT’s deputy governor for International Marketing Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya said that the government’s decision to ease entry guidelines for international arrivals is a positive development for foreign tourists. He added that most countries are reopening their borders in an effort to attract travelers.

He advised the Tourism Authority of Thailand and tour operators to provide the highest quality of travel experiences and services to their clients.

European visitors are beginning to book tickets for the peak season, particularly in coastal districts.
