Although the government has critics, especially in its efforts to restore tourism, Thailand remains one of the world’s top travel destinations. According to a survey conducted by financial services firm Visa Global Travel Intentions Survey, Thailand ranks 4th among the world’s top tourist destinations.
The top 3 mentioned in the survey are the United States, the United Kingdom, and India, with 30% of respondents choosing Thailand for a vacation, 25% choosing Thailand to relax and unwind, and 18% choosing Thailand for outdoor adventure.
The most popular locations in the country are Phuket, Bangkok, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai, with visitors particularly interested in traditional Thai cuisine and massage. Numerous participants showed an interest in going to spa resorts and experiencing Thai culture, like visiting Buddhist temples.
Visa’s ASEAN area manager, Serene Gay, applauded the results, stating that Thailand’s reopening would considerably contribute to the country’s tourism. She said that companies in the country must prepare for the return of international tourists and ensure their operations can fulfill tourists’ needs, especially during the post-pandemic period. She added that the need for financial security and contactless payment technologies would play an important role in sustainable tourism growth.
“We believe that all information will benefit small and large businesses in Thailand as they prepare for the tourism industry’s recovery. Visa anticipates becoming a business partner in the development of digital payment solutions. We want to be a part of the country’s recovery and bring it back to its full potential.”
