Government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul announced on Wednesday that Thailand surpassed its goal for tourist arrivals in the first three months of 2023, with 6.15 million tourists from January to March 27.
The government’s goal for the three months ending in March of this year was 6 million arrivals.
Ms. Traisuree stated that the government urged hospitality firms, particularly hotels, and restaurants, to offer reasonable pricing after prices were seen to double at certain establishments as more visitors came.
On Wednesday, Chamnan Srisawat, head of the Tourist Council of Thailand, said that at least 30 million visitors would likely visit Thailand this year and spend 1.5 trillion baht (US$43.74 billion).
The government anticipates between 25 million and 30 million visitors this year.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, 12% of Thailand’s GDP was attributable to tourism. This year, the Southeast Asian country anticipates earning 1.5 trillion baht from up to 30 million visitors.
