Thailand Pass To Be Removed Once COVID-19 Declared Endemic

The Tourism Authority of Thailand said that the projected number of tourists in the country may need to be revised due to the effect of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, entry restrictions will be eased as authorities work toward declaring COVID-19 an endemic.

The Thai Cabinet has previously approved the request by the Public Health Ministry to declare COVID-19 an endemic on or before July 1. This will result in further easing of entry measures, including the removal of the Thailand Pass in the second half of the year.

The CCSA is will suggest loosening certain travel regulations on its next meeting scheduled on Friday, March 18.  Unfortunately, eliminating the PCR test upon arrival is unlikely to be discussed.  The TAT governor insists that an RT-PCR test upon arrival is still necessary while the country is still experiencing a high infection rate.

On the other hand, Thailand may anticipate an increase in short-haul travelers. This includes India, which just agreed to a travel bubble with Thailand, Vietnam, which is scheduled to completely reopen its borders with Thailand on March 15, and Malaysia, which borders will open with Thailand starting April 1.

Meanwhile, the TAT is waiting for the CCSA’s decision about the upcoming Songkran holiday in April. Yuthasak said that if authorities approve the festival, TAT will initiate marketing campaigns to promote tourism.
