Thailand has been voted the world’s sixth best country for expatriates to live and work, according to the latest Expat Insider report by InterNations, a global network for people residing overseas. Out of 53 countries evaluated, Thailand shone as a prime destination, offering a compelling mix of quality of life and affordability, which appeals to expatriates worldwide.

The top spot was clinched by Panama, renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and economic advantages. According to the survey, which gathered insights from over 12,500 expatriates in February, a striking 82% of residents in Panama expressed satisfaction with their lives, attributing their contentment to favorable financial opportunities, retirement options, and an enhanced quality of life.

Respondents praised Panama for its low cost of living and the ease of settling in as a foreigner, which includes accessible and reasonably priced housing. These factors also contribute to its attractiveness for expatriates.

The Expat Insider survey assesses countries across five key indices: quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finance, and an expat essentials index, which encompasses housing, administrative ease, language barriers, and digital life. Following Panama in the rankings were Mexico, Indonesia, Spain, Colombia, Thailand, Brazil, Vietnam, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates.

In Thailand, the favorable ranking is seen as a testament to the efforts of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s administration, which has prioritized tourism as a vital economic force. The government has implemented several initiatives aimed at boosting foreign visits, including visa-free entry for multiple nationalities and fast-track visas for participants in meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), enhancing Thailand’s appeal as a global hub for both leisure and business.

These measures underscore the government’s commitment to fostering an environment that not only attracts tourists but also expatriates seeking a vibrant, yet cost-effective lifestyle in Thailand.

Last month, Thailand was ranked as the 4th most beautiful country in the world by the World of Statistics.
