Thailand’s Hidden Gems: 6 Places You Never Know Existed

Thailand is undoubtedly one of the top destinations to visit in Southeast Asia if you want to experience pure white sand and calm beaches, distinctive cuisine, stunning temples, and rich culture and history.

But did you know that as famous as Thailand may seem, it is also home to several hidden places that you might never know existed?

Here are six hidden travel destinations in Thailand:

Koh Yao Yai

Phuket is a gorgeous destination but often receives an influx of visitors. Other islands and beaches in Thailand are just as stunning as Phuket.  Koh Yao Yai is a calm get-away from the bustling crowds if you’re seeking a destination to visit that’s calm and more relaxing.

Koh Yao Yai can be visited by motorbike in a day or 2.  Visiting the area is essentially equivalent to seeing a private beach. There are a few locally owned lodgings, restaurants, and businesses on the area since it still remains a rural area.

Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park

Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park is can be found in the northernmost portion of Thailand and relatively close to the Myanmar border. This national park is one of Thailand’s most beautiful and well-preserved parks. Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall

The Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall is one of the most stunning waterfalls in Thailand.  However, due to the area being located in a remote area, there’s no direct public transportation to the region, making it quite difficult for tourists to reach the falls.

When you arrive, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the seven-tiered waterfall surrounded by equally gorgeous rich greenery. Camping is an alternative if you want to stay longer!

ChangChill Elephant Sanctuary

If elephants or any other animals make your heart race, this location is ideal for you. Although it is not as exciting as other tourist spots in Thailand, it is nevertheless well worth a visit. Visiting the ChangChill Elephant Sanctuary is not only a very enlightening experience but also a genuine opportunity to see elephants in their natural environment.  Help in preparing medication and food for them, and have a conversation with the elephant caregivers while you work!  In addition to being a truly satisfying experience, it encourages wildlife tourism!

Wat Rong Khun

Even though some visitors are already familiar with it, only a few make the walk and see the temple up close. The Wat Rong Khun white temple is unlike any other Thai temple due to its distinctive architecture and construction. Upon closer inspection, you will see horrifying figures, faces, and structures, such as gargoyles and upward-reaching hands. It is different from other Thai temples so it is worth a visit.

Kaeng Sam Phan Bok

Discover the Kaeng Sam Phan Bok, the Grand Canyon of Thailand. Sam Phan Bok directly translates to “3,000 holes” in Lao/Isaan. It is hard to count all of the different-sized holes that cover this massive rock formation, but they are really a sight to see.
